In response to the police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile and the subsequent shootings of police in Dallas in July 2016, Depelsha McGruder sought comfort in community by creating a Facebook group called M.O.B.B. United, aka Moms of Black Boys United. Never could she have imagined that this group would ignite a movement in just a matter of hours...21,000 mothers in the first day alone. Today, it is over 152,000 mothers strong. Depelsha speaks candidly about the realities and stresses of being a mother of black sons and what M.O.B.B. United is doing to change perceptions, stop the killings, and foster true and lasting change to give their sons hope for life and equality.
